Free Trial Policies You Should Know Before Signing Up
Before signing up for any free trial, it helps to know exactly what you're agreeing to: how long the trial lasts, whether it auto-renews, how to cancel, and what you'll pay if you forget. This reference table covers the most popular services.

Prices and trial terms current as of mid-2026. Companies frequently change trial offers, promotional lengths, and pricing. Always verify on the service's website before signing up.
Patterns to watch for
- Short trials on expensive software. Adobe and Grammarly offer only 7 days. One busy week and you're paying full price.
- Promotional trial lengths. Spotify and YouTube Premium often run 1-3 month promotions that change frequently. The trial you see advertised today might not be available tomorrow.
- Annual plan defaults. Some services default to annual billing during trial signup. If you don't cancel, you owe for the full year. Check the billing cycle before confirming.
- Money-back guarantees instead of trials. NordVPN and similar services don't offer a free trial — they charge immediately and offer a refund if you cancel within 30 days. You have to actively request the refund.
- No trial at all. Netflix and Disney+ have discontinued free trials entirely. Check before assuming any service offers one.
Set a reminder the day you sign up
The best time to set a cancellation reminder is the moment you enter your credit card. Not tomorrow, not "when you remember." Right now, while you're still on the signup page. ToolRack's Free Trial Tracker takes 10 seconds: enter the service name, start date, and trial length. It calculates the expiry date and sends you a browser notification before you get charged.
