PNG, JPG, or WebP. The larger the source, the better -- 4K works fine and stays responsive.

Steam Capsule Sizes (Full Reference Table)

Every Steam store and library asset size, verified 2026-08-10 directly against Steam's partner documentation (partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/assets, /assets/standard, /assets/libraryassets, and /assets/community). No file-size (KB/MB) limit is documented anywhere in Steam's official pages for any of these assets, so none is shown here -- we don't invent numbers Steam hasn't published.

How to Resize Your Capsule Art

Start with your highest-resolution source artwork -- ideally 4K or larger, since the biggest Steam asset (the Library Hero) needs 3840x1240 pixels. Drop that image into the upload area above; everything happens on your own device using the HTML canvas element, so nothing is sent anywhere.

Once your image loads, every Steam asset size appears as its own live preview card. For assets that need cropping, toggle between Fill (crop to completely cover the target, dragging the preview to move the focal point) and Fit (show the whole image, letterboxed if the aspect ratio doesn't match). Adjust each card independently -- your logo capsule might need a different focal point than your vertical capsule.

When a card looks right, click its PNG or JPG button to download that exact size immediately. There's no zip file and no batch export -- each asset downloads individually, so you always know exactly what you're getting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my game art get uploaded anywhere?

No. The resizer runs entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas element. Your source image is never sent to a server -- it never leaves your machine.

What source image size should I start with?

Start as large as possible -- ideally 4K (3840x2160) or larger -- so there is enough resolution for the biggest target, the 3840x1240 Library Hero, without upscaling. The tool will warn you if your source is smaller than a given target.

What is the difference between Fit and Fill?

Fill (cover) crops your image to completely fill the target dimensions -- drag the preview to move the focal point and control what stays visible. Fit (contain) shows your whole image with no cropping, adding empty space around it if the aspect ratio does not match.

Why are the achievement icon sizes marked unconfirmed?

Steam's official documentation confirms the achievement icon upload fields exist, but the fetched page text did not state their exact pixel dimensions. 256x256 is the size corroborated by community and secondary sources, so it is included but flagged rather than presented as officially verified.

Can this tool create a .ico file for my desktop shortcut icon?

Not directly. Browsers can only export canvas images as PNG or JPG. Download the 256x256 PNG from the Shortcut/Client Icon card and convert it to .ico with a separate icon-conversion tool.
